Aubria’s Organ Recital 1 (With Aaron playing piccolo trumpet).
This is the piece she worked on for this year’s recital.  She did a great job!

This is the piece she did last year, which we performed as an “after” concert for her teacher so it could be captured on video.  She hadn’t practiced it in quite some time, so she did an amazing job here doing this impromptu.

I had several issues I wanted to address.

1. Most tortilla presses are only for corn tortillas and suitable for 5 to 7 inch diameter tortillas.  I wanted one that would press up to 9 inch tortillas.
2. Many tortilla presses are horrible at making thin tortillas, so my press needed to be capable of making them sufficiently thin for my taste.

The result is the Ghetto Tortilladora (click on the thumbnails for larger versions):

While I freely admit that this is large and unwieldy (and a bit ugly), it really gets the job done. I had thought to take pictures of the finished product, but they all got eaten! The tortillas that come out of this press are virtually indistinguishable from store-bought flour tortillas. I press the dough balls between sheets of waxed paper, then I can stack them in the refrigerator and store them for quite some time. This allows me to cook up fresh ones whenever I want!

Aubria’s in a bunch of pre-AP classes in addition to AP US History.  The others are in a new homeschool co-op and having a ball.  Me?  I’m still teaching seminary and working like crazy.  It’s been a busy summer.  It almost seems less frantic having school again.  Almost.

For some strange reason, Hutto ISD decided that the high school would start at 9AM, half an hour later than last year.  Someone told me that by doing so, it will prevent the buses from idling for long periods of time with expected savings of over $50,000 per year.  Whatever.  I still won’t get any more sleep than last year.  My schedule just shifts to doing family devotionals before seminary instead of after.

I’ll be sure to post pictures and perhaps even video after it’s all done.

Panoramic Rainbow

I took this picture with the Microsoft Photosynth iPhone app.  It’s stitched together from multiple smaller shots.  It turned out rather well.  You don’t often see complete rainbows this strong.  This was the 3rd or 5th of July.
